How do you view relationships between 2 best friends of the opposite sex? ones which move past friendship?

you've heard it before... well maybe not so ill explain.
well it seams like everyone has that one best friend who is the opposite sex that after a few years or even possibly months you start to like on a deeper level? But normally it seams like only one develops those feelings. so what do you think of this because i see this happening now with my close friend

Theres a lot of pros and cons to it..i'm in one of them now and its great so far
But i had it kind of lucky i guess, was in a relationship for almost 3 yrs n it faded and became horrible near the end w/her trying to control me bipolar etc-so new chick n I were great friends for bout a year, n we started liking eachother a lot more just i couldnt show it, so i took a break with crazy chick, made a decision, and 3 months into new girl it havent regretted a day of it :)
pros, you already know all about them, you probably get along really well, you understand eachother, and tht ads up to great sex too
the cons are obvious though- gl! :P
